Repello rat repeller
One Repello unit is sufficient for a single room. For larger areas, use 2–3 units and place them in high-risk locations such as basements, utility rooms or garages—areas where rodents commonly gain entry.
Product Information
Not Just Another Gimmick
The only mouse and rat repellent backed by scientific research. Researchers at Luleå University of Technology have discovered how to replicate the warning calls that rats use to communicate danger to one another.
Safe for Your Pets
The product uses frequencies that humans, dogs and cats cannot hear—but which rats and mice find highly unpleasant.
Promising Test Results
A pilot study conducted by Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences showed promising results, with a significant reduction in the rat population.
Protects Areas up to 40 m²
One unit covers a larger space such as a garage, basement or attic.

Installation & Use
Easy Installation
Repello is designed to be used straight out of the box. Simply plug the unit into a wall socket in the area you want to protect, such as a basement, attic or storage space. Position it as freely as possible, without obstacles, so the sound signal can spread effectively throughout the room.
Place One in Each High-Risk Area
Kitchen – deters rats attracted to food scraps and waste.
Garage – prevents rats from nesting among boxes and vehicles.
Crawl space – place near entry points where rats often get in.
Basements and attics – typical nesting areas; install a unit if a power outlet is available.
Storage rooms and warehouses – protects food, feed and materials from rodents.
Utility rooms or boiler rooms – areas with pipes and heat that attract rats.
How It Works
When Repello is activated, it emits a unique sound signal developed by researchers at Luleå University of Technology and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, which rats instinctively associate with danger. They then leave the area and avoid returning for an extended period.
Maintenance-Free
The product requires no servicing or maintenance. Once plugged in, it operates fully automatically.

A smarter way to keep rodents away
Say goodbye to worries about rats and mice. Repello works quietly in the background, protecting your home around the clock.

Keeps your home free from rats and mice
Repello creates an environment that rats and mice avoid—without you noticing any impact in your daily life.

Safe for both people and pets
The frequencies only affect rodents, not children, dogs or cats. They are completely inaudible.

Works in all types of spaces
Effective in basements, garages, storage rooms, attics and other problem areas. IP-rated and moisture-protected.

The world’s first scientifically tested mouse and rat repellent
Repello is the only rat and mouse repellent based on the species’ own alarm signals. Developed by Professor Örjan Johansson at Luleå University of Technology and evaluated in a pilot study by Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
91%
Fewer rat observations
In the SLU pilot study, the number of registered rats decreased dramatically when Repello's signal was activated. Activity dropped by over 90% in some spaces, even in heavily affected environments.
100%
Repelling effect
In every registered rat encounter the same reaction occurred: the rat stopped, turned around and left the area. Not a single individual ignored the signal – all fled immediately.
The results showed a significant reduction in rat sightings.
Key study findings
The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences conducted a pilot study in which an ultrasonic signal, developed at Luleå University of Technology, was tested in a residential building with documented rat problems. Using infrared cameras, researchers monitored rat behaviour in real time. The results were clear: the signal affected rat behaviour immediately and significantly reduced activity, particularly in narrow passageways.
Read the full study hereThe study was conducted in a residential building with documented rat problems, in three different spaces where rats moved naturally.
First, rat activity was measured without any intervention. The ultrasonic signal was then activated during an intervention week in order to compare the effects.
The signal's frequency sweep (25–85 kHz) and pulsating nature mimicked the rat's own teeth grinding "alarm sound" – not random ultrasound.
When the sound was activated, rat activity decreased significantly. In the corridor, observations dropped byover 90%compared to the control week.
The few individuals that despite the sound made their way into the spaceturned around immediately and left the area, demonstrating a100% repelling effect on rats that were directly exposed.
Recognised for actually working
Other products are criticised for a lack of effect. Repello is praised for working in real-world conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
Does Repello really work - has it been tested?
Yes. Repello is the result of several years of research at Luleå University of Technology and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. In controlled tests, up to 90% of rats disappeared within 24 hours and avoided the area for up to 18 days, even when the sound was turned off.
Can humans or pets hear the sound?
No. The sound is inaudible to humans, dogs and cats. Repello is completely safe to use in homes, restaurants and other environments where people and pets are present.
How large an area does one Repello unit cover?
One unit covers approximately 40 m². For best results, we recommend one unit per floor or per separate space, such as a basement, garage or storage room.
Does Repello affect other animals?
Repello is aimed at rats and mice, but it may affect pet rodents such as hamsters and guinea pigs. The sound profile is optimised for the hearing of wild rodents, but since hamsters, guinea pigs and other small pet rodents have similar sensitivity to high-frequency sounds, they may experience discomfort. The product is therefore not recommended for use in the same room as pet rodents.
How quickly will I notice an effect?
Mice and rats usually react quickly to the sound pattern and begin leaving the area within the first 24 hours. In some environments—such as older buildings, larger spaces, or areas with many hiding places—it can take up to a week before all activity stops.
Can rats get used to the sound?
No. Tests show that mice and rats respond instinctively to the signals, and the risk of habituation is very low. Repello is based on frequency patterns that trigger rodents’ ancient flight response. It is not a sound they can get used to or learn to ignore—the brain reacts reflexively every time the signal is detected.
Does it work on mice?
Yes. Repello also works on mice, including wood mice. The product is designed to disrupt both rats and mice using their natural alarm signals, causing them to leave the area and helping to prevent them from returning.
